CATALYZE // HOTEL DESIGN
A design proposal for a green hotel and provide comfortable short-term accommodation for guests. The proposed site located at the city center Kuala Terengganu, Terengganu.
My idea is inspired by the site analysis. When I study about the neighborhood context and the landmark of Kuala Terengganu, I found that the proposed site is located in the middle of two famous landmarks, the Istana Maziah, a historical building that represents the past of KT, and the Terengganu Drawbridge that represent the modern development of a city. So, our site act as a “Catalyze” between the old and new area. Besides, from the historical timelines and also the urban morphology, we can know that the urban planning of the Kuala Terengganu forward and further developt become a modern city.
The idea of Catalyze creates a principal design element to reduce the energy intensity of the building. My concept idea is to design a “Low Energy Hotel”.

Site Analysis
Kuala Terengganu is the administrative capital, the royal capital of Terengganu. Kuala Terengganu is located 440 kilometers northeast of Kuala Lumpur. The city is known as the main economic center of Terengganu. It has the largest population within the state and is a city of itself. Kuala Terengganu retains strong Malay influences that intermixed with other cultures from its history as a port.
Precedent Study
Little Shelter is located in Chiang Mai where its old cityscape and vernacular architecture are characterized by a wood structure with a shingle pitched roof. The hotel roof form inspired by traditional hip roofs as an homage to the local architecture. It has a little reinterpretation with an asymmetrical form blending naturally with the surrounding trees.
The Babylon Garden Condotel is located in a crowded coastal hotel zone near Danang Beach. The modern green appearance contrast with the urban site context it offers a serene natural experience while only a few steps from the hustle and bustle.
